What is Signup popup?
A signup popup is a form that appears over or beside a web page to invite visitors to join your email list, often in exchange for an offer or content.
Popups work because they ask at a moment of interest. Triggers can be time on page, scroll depth or exit intent, and each should be tested against how it feels on mobile.
Keep the form short. An email address alone is often enough, and further questions can be asked later in a preference flow.
Respect the visitor. Show it once, remember dismissals, and avoid covering content on small screens. Google may treat intrusive overlays on mobile as a poor experience.
A worked example.
A hypothetical tea shop shows a small slide-in after a visitor has scrolled through a product page, instead of a full-screen popup on arrival. The form asks only for an email and promises a short guide to brewing.
Common mistakes.
- Showing a full-screen popup immediately on arrival
- Asking for many fields upfront
- Reappearing after the visitor has dismissed it
