How to set up a back in stock flow in Klaviyo
A back in stock flow notifies shoppers when an item they wanted becomes available again. In Klaviyo, add a notify me prompt on out of stock product pages, build a flow on the back in stock trigger, and send a fast, product-focused email with a direct link to buy.
Have this ready.
- A store that syncs stock status to Klaviyo
- A notify me form or button on out of stock product pages
- Product images and links that stay valid after restocking
- A plan for how many alerts one person can receive per item
Steps.
1. Enable the feature in your store integration
Check the integration settings and Klaviyo documentation to confirm back in stock is switched on and that your store sends inventory updates.
2. Add the subscribe prompt
Place the notify me button or form on out of stock product pages so shoppers can ask for an alert. Make it clear that they will get an email about that product.
3. Create the flow
Open Flows and choose the back in stock trigger. This starts when a product someone subscribed to is available again.
4. Write a direct email
Lead with the product image, name and a single button to buy. The shopper already asked for this, so skip long introductions.
5. Add urgency honestly
Mention that stock can sell out quickly only if it is true. A short follow-up can be added for people who did not click.
6. Handle consent properly
Be clear about whether the alert signup also joins marketing lists. Keep the notification separate from general marketing consent.
7. Test the whole path
Subscribe to alerts on a test product, change its stock status, and check that the email arrives and links to the right product. Then set live.
Common pitfalls.
- Sending the alert when only one size or variant returned, linking to a still unavailable option.
- Making the notify me form the only signup, then silently adding people to marketing lists.
- Not testing stock sync, so the trigger never fires.
- Sending the alert days after restocking, when the item has sold out again.
Check it worked.
- Notify me prompt appears on out of stock pages
- Restocking a test product fires the flow
- Email shows the correct variant and link
- Consent wording is accurate
- Flow and emails are live
Klaviyo changes its interface from time to time, so treat the steps as the order of work and match the names to what you see on screen.
