What is Sending domain?

A sending domain is the domain name used in the technical authentication of your emails, often a subdomain of your main site.

Using a subdomain for marketing email, such as a mail or news prefix, keeps its reputation separate from your main domain and the mailboxes your team uses.

It must be authenticated with SPF, DKIM and DMARC and used consistently.

A worked example.

A bicycle store sends marketing from a subdomain such as mail.example.com, authenticated with SPF, DKIM and DMARC. If a campaign hurts that subdomain's reputation, staff mailboxes on the main domain are unaffected.

Common mistakes.
