What is Klaviyo metric?

A Klaviyo metric is a named type of event the platform records for a profile, such as Placed Order, Started Checkout or Opened Email.

Each time a customer does something tracked, an event of that metric is stored on their profile with details such as the product or value. Metrics come from integrations like your store platform, from Klaviyo itself, or from custom events you send.

Metrics are the building blocks of most automation. Flows trigger on them, segments are defined by them and reports count them over time.

Because so much depends on them, check that the key ecommerce metrics are flowing in correctly before building anything. A missing event usually means a broken integration, not a customer who did nothing.

A worked example.

A hypothetical outdoor gear store opens its metrics list and sees Placed Order, Started Checkout and Viewed Product are all recording. It then builds a segment of people who viewed a tent three times without purchasing, which can only be done because that metric is tracked.

Common mistakes.
