What is Google Postmaster Tools?

Google Postmaster Tools is a free dashboard from Google that shows how Gmail rates your sending domain, including reputation, spam rate and authentication results.

You verify ownership of your sending domain with a DNS record, then the dashboard reports on traffic that reaches Gmail users. Typical panels cover domain reputation, spam rate, authentication success and delivery errors.

It only shows data once you send enough volume to Gmail recipients, so small senders may see empty charts. The data is also specific to Gmail, so it is a useful signal rather than the whole picture.

Used regularly, it works as an early warning. A drop in reputation or a rise in spam rate often appears here before open rates visibly change.

A worked example.

Consider a pet supplies store that checks the dashboard after a large seasonal campaign. The spam rate panel has risen and domain reputation has slipped a level. The team trims the next sends to recent engagers only, and watches the panels recover over the following weeks.

Common mistakes.
