How to export and review campaign revenue in Klaviyo
To review campaign revenue in Klaviyo, open the campaign reports, set the date range and attribution view, export the results, and compare sends using revenue per recipient rather than only total revenue. Always read the numbers alongside the attribution window used.
Have this ready.
- A date range for the review
- A list of the campaigns you want to compare
- An understanding of the attribution window on your account
- A spreadsheet to hold the export
Steps.
1. Choose the review period
Pick a period long enough to cover several sends, such as a month or quarter, and keep it the same when you compare to another period.
2. Check the attribution settings
Note the window used for attributing orders to opens or clicks. Different windows give different totals, so record which one you used.
3. Open the campaign report list
Go to the campaign reporting area and filter by date and by send type if needed, so one off sends and tests do not clutter the view.
4. Export the data
Use the export option to download the campaign table with recipients, clicks, orders and revenue for the period.
5. Add revenue per recipient
In your spreadsheet, divide revenue by recipients for each campaign. This puts a large send and a small segment on equal footing.
6. Compare like with like
Group campaigns by type, such as launch, promotion or content, and compare within groups. Different types have different norms.
7. Note what drove the result
Record audience, offer, subject line and send time next to each row, then pick one thing to test in the next send.
Common pitfalls.
- Comparing total revenue between sends of very different audience sizes.
- Changing the attribution window between reviews.
- Counting revenue that flows would have produced anyway as campaign revenue.
- Drawing conclusions from a single send.
Check it worked.
- Date range and attribution window recorded
- Export saved with a clear name
- Revenue per recipient calculated
- Campaigns grouped by type
- One test chosen for next time
Klaviyo changes its interface from time to time, so treat the steps as the order of work and match the names to what you see on screen.
