How do I write a good subject line for a sale email?
State the offer and the deadline plainly in the subject line, in a few words, so the reader knows what they get and by when. Clarity beats cleverness, and capital letters or stacked exclamation marks tend to hurt.
A sale subject line has one job, which is to make the right person open an email they already half expect. Name the product or category, the saving and the end date if there is one. Keep the most important words at the start, because mobile screens cut subject lines short.
Pair it with a preheader that adds one new detail rather than repeating the subject. Test two versions on a split of the list and judge them by clicks and revenue, not opens alone.
In practice.
A store running a weekend sale tests "Weekend sale on knitwear, ends Sunday" against a version that only teases a surprise. It sends each to half of a segment and keeps whichever drives more clicks and orders per recipient.
