How to set up double opt-in in Klaviyo

Double opt-in asks new subscribers to confirm their address by clicking a link before they join your list. In Klaviyo you enable the setting on the list, customise the confirmation email, and make sure forms and flows only treat confirmed people as subscribed.

Have this ready.

Steps.

  1. 1. Decide where it applies

Choose which lists need confirmation. Some stores use it on every list, others only where list quality has been a problem or local rules favour it.

  2. 2. Open the list settings

Go to the list, open its settings and switch the opt-in process to double opt-in. Save the change.

  3. 3. Edit the confirmation email

Customise the message so it looks like your brand, explains why they are being asked, and has one obvious confirm button.

  4. 4. Set the confirmed page

Make sure people land on a useful page after confirming, such as a thank you or a prompt to shop, not a blank screen.

  5. 5. Align the welcome flow

Trigger the welcome flow from the list so it starts after confirmation. Check that the incentive is delivered once, not twice.

  6. 6. Tell forms what to say

Update form success messages so they tell people to check their inbox and confirm. Mention the sender name they should look for.

  7. 7. Test the full path

Sign up with a fresh address, find the confirmation email, click it, and verify the profile status and welcome email.

Common pitfalls.

Check it worked.

Klaviyo changes its interface from time to time, so treat the steps as the order of work and match the names to what you see on screen.
