What is BIMI?
BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) is a standard that lets your brand logo appear beside your emails in mailbox providers that support it.
It builds on authentication. To qualify, your domain needs SPF, DKIM and a DMARC policy set to enforcement (quarantine or reject), and some providers also require a verified logo certificate.
The benefit is recognition and a small trust signal in a crowded inbox. It does not fix deliverability by itself, so get authentication and list health right first.
A worked example.
A footwear brand reaches DMARC enforcement, prepares its logo in the required format and obtains the certificate some providers ask for. In supporting inboxes its logo then appears next to its messages, which helps shoppers spot real emails among lookalikes.
Common mistakes.
- Chasing BIMI before DMARC is properly enforced
- Using a logo file that does not meet the format requirements
- Expecting it to improve inbox placement on its own
